Slate Projects is an itinerant curatorial project founded by Alex Meurice in London in 2013, and based between London and New York. We organise a regular programme of group and solo exhibitions, each focusing on pertinent themes in current artistic practice, while collaborating closely with artists, curators and galleries. The shows have been organised in various locations across London, from old factories to derelict mansions and hotels. The building itself often plays the role of both stage and protagonist, compelling us to experiment with the typical exhibition format, and offering visitors a peek into the wings of London’s property boom. Slate Projects also publishes illustrated catalogues with commissioned writing to accompany select exhibitions.

Until October 2016, Slate Projects was based at the Averard Hotel in Lancaster Gate, an empty nineteenth-century townhouse-cum-hotel currently awaiting renovation. A complex layering of historical styles, grand spaces and abandon made for a unique exhibition venue which challenged the conventions of contemporary art exhibitions.
